Bruno Magli Spring 2013
“In his sophomore effort for Bruno Magli, creative director Max Kibardin drew upon various references "Seventies colors, military motifs, the films To Catch a Thief and Zabriskie Point" and whipped them all into a smart collection.
To help convey a sexier image for the house, Kibardin collaborated with American photographer Karen Collins on a semi-erotic film called 603, which was shown throughout the presentation.
The spring accessories were tame in comparison to the racy flick. There were simple sandals in mauve suede with a chunky heel and a leather ankle cuff style, while Mary Jane pumps came in bright orange leather. Bags included a military-inspired duffle, structured calfskin briefcase bags and boxy suede clutches.
The clothes (shrunken bomber jackets, full skirts and peasant dresses all worked in leather and suede) and much of the accessories were shown on mannequins arranged in an artsy setup meant to mimic Collins' Seventies photos.

“Though Max Kibardin designs stilettos adorned with hot pink spikes and sandals that sprout goat hair, he considers himself a classicist at heart. I've always been inspired by very elegant, sophisticated shoes, says the Siberian-born, Milan-based cobbler. His flair for giving traditional styles a little oomph has long attracted such fashion-savvy customers as Sarah Jessica Parker and Anna Dello Russo. More recently, it inspired the 76-year-old Italian brand Bruno Magli to tap him as its creative director. Charged with revitalizing a label that hadn't seen the spotlight since the O.J. Simpson trial " Simpson was (allegedly) wearing Maglis at the crime scene " Kibardin spent his early months on the job rooting through the company archive, in which he discovered a wealth of raw material ripe for a revamp. Styles like the classic pump, popularized by Bruno Magli in the sixties, have been reimagined by the designer in a range of vibrantly hued silk grosgrain; box calf, meanwhile " a tough hide long used for mens dress shoes " has been reworked into self-assured ankle-strap stilettos in a rich forest green. Kibardin also created clothing for the debut fall collection " napa leather smock dresses, a swingy mink coat " that further emphasizes the label's sexy and spirited new look. It's a very nice combination, Kibardin says, of Bruno Magli's aesthetic and my own."”

Shoes Shine at Pitti Uomo
“To raise its brand profile, Bruno Magli, on top of its Pitti presentation, also held an event at the Westin Excelsior Hotel on Wednesday to unveil a limited-edition capsule collection conceived with New York based artist Brian Kenny. The line consisted of four black loafers and a bag featuring exclusive glow-in-the-dark decorations created by Kenny. We took the inspiration from Pier Paolo Pasolinis movie Medea, featuring Maria Callas, explained Bruno Magli creative director Max Kibardin, revealing that is developing further artistic collaborations, including an upcoming project with an undisclosed jewelry designer. Magli, which is gearing up to revamp both its Milan and Venice boutiques with a new concept, also will move its American headquarters to Manhattan and plans to open a new store in London, according to CEO Armin Mueller.”
